1.The circumstances in which the Church has appeared

First years of the XIX-th century were ideologically fretted years. The French Revolution, whose motto was :"No God", would soon lead to the appearance of the Rationalism, and the alternating non-christian philosophies and, also, to Freud's psychology - which was man - centred, not God - centred. In the same time appeared Darwin's book "The Origin of Species", as an pseudo-scientific alternative for the Christian Creationism, which had already been thought to be old-fashioned. It was also thought that the Holy Bible was too old for such new times.

Voltaire had maintained that, within 50 years, the Bible would be an archival book.

In such circumstances, a group of faithful people, standing in owe of God, begin to study the Bible earnestly. They understand the promise of Jesus Christ's soon returning and the hope avanses in their hearts. They understand that Salvation is God's gift, through the Sacrifice of God's Son. They find out that we have a single High Prest who makes intercession for man is Haven - this is Jesus Christ.

These faithful people are the founders of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

    2.What means this name ?

    2.1. A christian Church

Firstly, the Seventh Day Adventist Christian Church is realy a Christian Church. The faith in the Son of God as the Only Lord and Redeemer, crucified and ressurected, that is the fondation of our creed.

So, it has a deep Christ-centred character, Jesus Christ being the centre of the beliver's life and activity.

"For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ and him crucified."

    ( 1 Corinthians 2:2 )

    2.2. An evanghelical church

Secondly, the SDA Church is an evanghelical Church. The base of our religious convinctions is God's Word, the Holy Bible, the only rule for faith and doctrine. This feature represents a continuation of the old protestant priciple :"Sola Scriptura" - that is "The Bible and nothing but the Bible".

In the Holy Bible we can find out the Source of Salvation, which is given to us as gift, through faith in the Sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"Search the Scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life : and they are they which testify of Me".

    ( John 5:39 )

2.3. A Church waiting for the fulfilment of Jesus Christ's promise of His soon returning

The SDA Chrch is a church waiting for Jesus Christ's returning. That is the linkage between the adventist belivers all over the world. That is God's answer to the needs of a tired and sick world. Jesus Christ is coming again! "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also".( John 14 : 3 )The name of the Church itself reveals this specific hope.

The word - "adventist" derives from the latin term - "adveenio", which means -"coming" ( advento= to draw near).  Being an adventist means being an active waiting-person, a militant for the soon promised returning of our Redeemer, Lord Jesus Christ.

2.4. A Church which upholds the total acceptance of the Scripture's authority

Not lastly, the SDA Church is a church which upholds the total aceeptance of God's word, which must be observed and repeated totally, without changes , without adding or removing anything. The SDA Church upholds also the obligation of Keeping God's Law (The Ten Comandments), in His integrity, as a base of a sound christian morals. That's why the Church is a Seventh Day Adventist Church, because the fourth comandment of God's Law. Shows the obligation of observing the Seventh-Day Sabbath (Saturday), as a day of rest, blessed and sanctified by God Himself even from the Creation (Genesis 2:1-3). There was no time in history when a comandment of God's Law have been abolished. Lord Jesus Christ Himself said :" Think not that I am come to distroy, but to fulfill".( Mattew 5:17)The Sabbath Rest is God's answer to the man's urgent need of rest in a stressed and stressing world, it is the special blessing He is eager to offer us today.
