An interview about Adventist -chat
with David Burry , from Adventist channel on DAL Net,
AdventChat - http://www.tagnet.org/adventchat

1.Please tell us some things about your activities in God's ministries.
(in this adventist chat and other works). What was the motivation for this work?

I'm happy to answer any questions.  I have always been somewhat shy in real
life to share what God has done for me, but here on the internet, I've
learned to overcome some of that fear.  The internet is not as
intimidating, and it's much easier for most people to speak from their
heart.

The DALnet Adventist Chat Ministry started about two and a half years ago.
A group of us got together and saw how we could really use this medium for
the work of God.  The motivation for our chat ministry has always been to
reach out.  This goal includes everyone!  Fellow Adventists, other
Christians, Atheists, "troublemakers," we want to witness to all of them.
We want to show who Jesus is by providing a friendly place to chat and
fellowship, and often just being there for people in need of a friend.

2.How was the effect of this chat to adventist people and to non >adventist?

The effect of chat on the heart can be very deep.  There are not as many
barriers between people as there are in person.  People will say things
they would never say to your face.  It can be a direct window to the inner
soul.  Many people use this fact for evil; we use it for good.

3.How you can see the final events from USA?
What are the principal directions of this events in your vision?

The internet is a new medium.  It is just as effective for preaching the
Gospel as any of the more traditional mediums like television or radio.
The internet is a worldwide medium and it puts the whole world at your
fingertips.  I've had real heart-to-heart talks about The Truth with Jews
in Israel, people in the South Pacific, Muslims in Asia, Catholics in the
United Kingdom, Atheists in Russia, and other people from all walks of life.

But the majority of the internet users are in the USA.  The USA dominates
the internet.  In fact, I am not proud of it, but the USA now dominates the
whole world, politically, technologically, and economically.  The USA tries
to get involved and dictate the affairs of nearly every country around the
world.  Is not this what the Bible foretold?  Aren't we on the brink of the
lamb-like beast speaking like a terrrible dragon?  Truely then, the
"unreached" people that the whole world can reach out to with the Gospel
are right here in the USA!  Do you want to go for the hardest mission field
in the world?  Come to the USA!  The USA needs dedicated missionaries who
are not distracted by the comforts of this world like we are.  People whose
eye is single to the great plan of salvation.  The internet can be an
integral part of this, but the key is the personal one-on-one touch.

4.Let us know some things about this ministry. What activities you have
done?  How many peoples are involved in this chat (to organize the work)?

We have about 10 people who have volunteered to be "operators"--that is who
take the special responsibility to watch and take care of the chat channel.
But we have hundreds of Gospel workers who regurlarly come and get
involved.  We have our main channel that is more fellowship-oriented, and
we also have a separate channel for online prayer at certain specific
times, we have a channel where we are planning to host Bible study
discussions at certain times, and we have a channel that is specially
geared toward outreach.  There are many other channels springing up,
especially youth-oriented ones.  I encourage them all hearily.  I dream for
the day when we have a host of different chat channels on every chat
network, all reaching out.

4.What do you think about the youth implication (involving) in God's work?
How are the mission of the youth for these days?

Although we have people of all ages in our chat ministry, there are more
youth who are technology-oriented and computer-literate.  We youth (I
include myself, since I'm only 25.) are the new and upcoming leaders in
God's work.  We must not simply rely on others to tell us what to do and
how to think, but we must dig into The Word for ourselves for its
treasures, and learn of Him for ourselves.  We can't only rely on the
experience of others that have gone before us, but we must taste and see
for ourselves that the Lord is good.

6.Please tell to our youth some words to encourage them to mission!

Let me close with a couple stories:

There was once a Canadian Adventist woman who came into chat, who was going
through some terrible struggles in her personal life.  Like so many people
out there, she had gotten into a bad marriage situation where she felt that
nobody cared.  She had a younger sister who was a drug junkie and got her
hooked on crack.  She would often come into our channel, sometimes praising
God for His wonderful mercy, and other times proclaiming that she had sold
her soul to Satan and pleading with us to stop praying for her.  Several of
us wrote to her many times.  I even called her on the phone once (I was
living in China at the time).  We always assured her that there was
_no_way_ we would ever stop praying for her, and that we would _never_
leave her or stop loving her, no matter what happened.  Through the power
of God, she quit taking crack, which is one of the most addictive and
debilitating drugs out there, and has been free now for over a year.  She
is not yet over all the problems that gave her that weakness in the first
place, but that was a turning point in her life, and I can hardly believe
that we were priviledge to take part in it.

Way back when I first started in this ministry, I met a young Jewish girl
living in Israel.  She told me how she hated God for letting her whole
family perish in the holocaust.  She could hardly believe that He even
existed for how could anyone just stand by and watch such a thing happen
and not _do_ something about it?  I talked with her for a couple hours
about it, and finally she started asking me questions like, "What does God
mean to you?" "How can you love Him?" "Why would He let such a thing
happen?"  I could just see her soul yearning to know The Truth, drawing it
out from me...  At that moment, she suddenly had to leave!  Her mother had
just arrived home and she was _very_ mad about something!  I could just see
the powers of darkness pressing in on her at that moment.  This was not a
struggle with flesh and blood, but against "principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual
wickedness in high places." (Eph 6:12)  We quickly exchanged email
addresses, and I immediately wrote her a long email about the entire plan
of salvation.  I told her about how sin started in heaven, about how the
foundataion of God's government is freedom, and that's why sin must play
its course until it can be shown by example what the final natural
consequence is.  I told her about how we have a way out through Jesus, and
about how it would be ended at last, and sin would never rise a second
time.  I knew this Jewish family was likely to react at the mention of
"Jesus" but He's the central part of the plan of salvation, and the story
would not be complete without Him.  I sent if off with a prayer that her
soul would be reached.  I have never heard from her again, but I have
confidence that God will never forget her, just as He will never leave any
of us.

There have been many other stories since then.  More than I can count.
Many I have not been directly involved in, some I have.  The opportunities
are great.  The harvest is plenty but the workers are few.  I pray every
day that the Lord of the harvest will send forth more workers into His
harvest.  This is not just for the benefit of others, but for us as well.
We are the ones who benefit the most from His school of working in His
harvest.

Thank you so much for taking time to answer!
Friendly and with love in Christ, Lucian Mihailescu, SDA Church Slobozia, Romania

And thank you for taking the time to ask these questions.  I am always
happy to answer.  I am sending a copy to a few other people in the hopes
that others may be blessed too as we share.

A message for the youth
with Jocelyn Abernathy, operator on Adventist channel on DAL Net,

Please say some words about youth and their mission.

Please tell the youth there that now is the time to learn about Jesus' awesome
love for every single person.  The Internet Chat is just one of millions of ways to
minister for the Lord.  People are hurting as close as next door and as far away
as around the world from wherever home is.

So whatever we do - Do it unto the Lord.  For there is only one LifeGiver and
thankfully He is ALL that we need.

I'm a little older than dburry who wrote to you, and I remember when the song,
"We have this hope that burns within our hearts - Hope in the coming of the
Lord" was introduced for the first time at campmeeting.  That song still warms
my heart today only more so.  Jesus Christ is coming and He wants all of His
children.

How do we prepare for Jesus Christ' returning?

How do we prepare?  By daily letting God know that we trust Him.  That our
selfishness is a poor substitute for His righteousness.  And then allowing God to
show us what we can do to know Him better, to love Him more and to serve Him
wholeheartedly.

God bless you in your service for the Master!
Sincerely,
TG777, an #Adventist Channel Operator
